Review of Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) by Clem666 — 04 Mar 2021
This movie starts with a really long introduction allowing us to deeply get into the atmosphere thanks to the epic music, the caracters' behaviours and the decor. During this first scenes the villain is as incredible as his acting.
When it comes to the main villain he certainly shows some terrible acting. He is boring and embodies the classic villain able to fight with bare hands while chewing an old cigarillo. Fight scenes are a bit lame since no one bleeds out even during gunfights. For example the FBI black dude get shot in the stomach twice in something like three days but still manages to walk, laugh, fight and win. It seems like they are using some plastic bullets in this movie! Despite this fact I have to admit that stunts are amazing.
The heroines (McQuade's daughter and lover) appear to be particularly useless, constantly helpless and laughable. The romance is effortless, way too predictable and conventional. A lot of women are overly stereotyped and cliché excepted maybe McQuade's ex-wife who defines herself as a strong divorced mother and woman.
The movie contains a lot of product placements with Coca-Cola, Pearl beer and Jack Daniel's amongst others. They didn't even try to hide it! You probably noticed two out of the three brands are alcohol: it is because the hero is an effing alcoholic. I guess it is supposed to make him look cooler...
Some jokes are funny and truly quotable as this movie is an inexhaustible source of memes. The final fight theme is awesome.
