Review of Lone Wolf McQuade (1983) by Clay B — 13 Jul 2010
"Lone Wolf McQuade" may not be Chuck Norris' best, or even most entertaining, film, but it may be his most quintessential; this effort was obviously the biggest inspiration for his later success with "Walker: Texas Ranger" and contains its fair share of jaw-dropping moments that paved the way for the enormously popular Chuck Norris Facts.
This is a modern-day spaghetti western with martial arts thrown into the mix and promises a dream martial arts showdown with the casting of David Carradine as the villain; the climactic fight between Norris and Carradine is worth the build-up, but overall, the film is pretty by-the-numbers and the plot contains too many draggy stretches that prevent "Lone Wolf McQuade" from being elevated into an action classic.
However, if there's one scene that earns the description "worth the price of admission alone", it's when Chuck is beaten to a bloody pulp and buried alive inside his Dodge Charger...
until he resurrects himself by throwing down a beer and accelerating his truck up through the dirt! The legend of Chuck Norris was born with that moment!
