Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Wayne A — 23 Apr 2011
The cast play their parts exquisitely, Farrell as the ex-con, Winstone in his 'I-could-do-this-sh*t-in-my-sleep-gangster-kingpin' rolse, Knightley wandering around looking gorgeous but best of all is David Thewliss merrily scampering his way through the film as a somewhat deranged drug loving friend of Knightley's. The direction is spot on and well rounded for the various locations we visit on the journey. So what the hell went wrong? The plot is ....how can I put it nicely... randomly atrocious. It starts well and draws you in, but then takes a couple of corners whilst you're not looking and leaves you bewildered and frustrated, as if they just got bored halfway through, or lost a lot of the good stuff on a laptop they left in the back of a cab and had to cobble together what could be remembered in their empty hungover heads and what was strewn around on post-it notes...
Such a shame.
