Review of Lolita (1962) by Ryan H — 18 Mar 2011
He narrates the relation between a mature man and his step-daughter doing a real study of the condition it humanizes. Hubert (Mason) evolves from the safety of the mature man up to an insecurity which maximum expression they are the jealousies that he feels for Lolita (Lyons) to evolve towards the most absolute coldness and to commit a murder.
Nevertheless Lolita evolves in the opposite direction though with conditions. It is a drama though with certain notes of humor that serve to relax the spectator and to tense it later. Kubrick's great direction in his better moment and that two years before had rolled Espartaco.
Perfect, incredible Mason in the scene in which it knows Lolita and his desperación for looking at her. Also well Sellers, Lyons and winters. Linear movie with jumps as in the beginning and you index movie fans in the same one.
To take delight. Not to confuse with the adjustment that Adrian Lyne did in 1997, more faithful to the novel but page and without emotion.
