Review of Lolita (1962) by Reggie S — 10 Oct 2015
Nabokov's ingenious trickery is unfortunately lost in this tame adaptation, which turns Humbert from a moral black hole to little more than a cocky arse. There are highlights - as is to be expected - in Kubrick's mise en scene, but these are few and far between, and it seems that the director was yet to fully abandon the restrictions of past convention.
