Review of Lolita (1962) by Bradley H — 12 Nov 2012
Gorgeous and almost perfectly framed in that dark, Kubrick way. There is a clear sense of what was toned down for the standards of the time, but what is left still has teeth. Darkly hilarious, but somehow, perhaps sickly, it pulls on some sentimentality.
Peter Sellers is (when is he not?) brilliant and James Mason's voice adds an entire dimension to the film.
