Review of Lolita (1962) by Gabriel L — 27 May 2013
Perhaps the most commercially built film by Kubrick, and even the least demanding of the lot, Lolita is still a fascinating examination of the psychological appeal of sexual taboos and obsessions that lead to tragedy.
Based on the famous novel of Nabokov, it talks about a mild mannered professor's obsession with the young daughter of his landlady. With strong performances by the cast, and wonderful and memorable photography, a reoccurring asset in Kubrick's works, the film achieves a feeling of sexuality without really ever resorting to much physical contact.
