This is one of the best Holocaust movies of all time. Begnigni neither avoids the Nazi terror towards Jews but keeps it lighthearted for the benefit of his young son, Joshua, and an extraordinarily brave wife.
Making a game of internment in a concentration camp to conceal Joshua's presence, life DOES become beautiful...
