Review of Life Is Beautiful (1997) by Dawdlingpoet — 20 Nov 2021
This is a film of two halfs, you could say - I loved the first half, the silly, slapstick, visual style comedy and the nice Italian landscapes/setting. It becomes more bittersweet and poignant when things take a more sober turn, plot wise.
I kind of respected the father for trying to make light of such a serious situation and I did find myself giggling at times, although it did feel somewhat wrong to do so. This is very much a thought provoking watch - a film I'd definitely recommend, though the only thing that spoilt it a bit was that some of the things that happened, people bumping into other people and people managing to get to certain places, seemed a little unlikely frankly but for the most part its a pretty decent film.
