Review of Leviathan (2014) by Eliza B — 30 Jan 2015
Even if non-existent, the only shortcoming of Leviathan would probably be a slow, one of the things I usually resist communally in the movies, but in relationship to Leviathan, was very difficult accompanies it. But as this story progresses sumptuously to be told by Zvyagintsev can be much higher than the goals themselves, of course, and also desfrui some well assembled elements, its slowness gradually becomes invisible.
Leviathan is very simplistic. Give all well summarized and uncomplicated for easy understanding of the public, something that is unlikely to be stopped, but with a magnitude, it is efficient to the story. Honestly, there are moments in the film that left me confused, but it was well passenger. In some parts, the film is well unfaithful to his intention, but I guarantee that it possibly will not cause any inconvenience. In fact, the important thing here is not even understanding, as it were, the director certainly would use more techniques to improve the film. The important thing here is the delicate analysis of moral conflicts that arise with ruthless force, and also lead our attention. It is also recommended not create many false expectations about the story, because it intentionally deceives, nor wait sentimentality. Only to destroy this climate of erroneous predictions about the film: its end is not happy there. But it is quite unique to long: the transformation. Without this "game", I believe that Leviathan would not make any sense. Or even without the deconstructive tragedy which the characters involved.
Andrey Zvyagintsev reveals one of the best films of the current Russian cinema, which recently went through a very difficult phase. Zvyagintsev also reveals his tricks to the simplicity of this work: the abuse of dialogues in the script, his co-authorship; the little camera movement in the scenes; paradoxes in the plots, which although it sounds cliché, here sounds positively innovative. Of course, all this with the help (also highlighting) the wonderful photography. Leviathan is not so immensely colorful, but there is a perfect combination of colors, which further enhances its intense dramatic structure. It is so natural, that gradually captures our eyes, which majestically gives a beauty to the film.
