Review of L'Avventura (1960) by James L — 20 Jul 2008
L'avventura is one of those few films that are often difficult to summarize because a great deal of the joy in the experience comes from its unpredictability. The story begins with the search for a missing person (and without giving too much away) takes a gradual turn into a tale about alientation, morality, and self-discovery.
Antonioni is much less concerned about a digestible plotine and is far more interested in depicting the pychological state of his characters. Great emotional depth, character study, and wonderfully shot in a neo-realist fashion with rich landscapes and haunting imagery.
