Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Jack W — 20 Oct 2010
An incredible piece of work. It takes awhile to unfold but once it does this film shakes you up, forcing you to think about things. How long is the proper time to grieve, the intricacies of relationships, how people interact with each other AND the incredible voyeurism of men towards the female form especially as it is represented within cinema.
Antonioni masterfully directs here as many things I didn't notice until further viewing. It is those subtleties which adds impact to the work. Monica Vitti is stunning throughout, what a gorgeous face.
Definitely one of those films needed to be watched again and again, each time learning new and added dimensions.
