Review of L'Avventura (1960) by Marat P — 23 Jul 2012
Even though it is constantly known as one of the most important films ever made, it doesn't always hit people as hard as it does others. It doesn't have to do with a lack of knowledge of cinema, it is just a personal thing.
Antonioni has made a film that moves it's plot fast, but takes time in between to dwell in the moment. And some, myself NOT included, find his style boring and ineffective. If it is a style that you appreciate while you are watching it (not just in general), then this film is going to hit hard.
With the exception on the people who feel that way, this film is a film that literally does not lack anything. It excels in a lot, especially it's stunning visuals, but it really doesn't lack anything.
While Antonioni, to quote myself, "dwells in the moment", there are always emotions in the air. From the characters present and from our lost friend Anna. Both of which, usually, are very effective.
A masterpiece if there ever was one. And I sincerely mean it. There almost cannot be a film as well constructed as this.
