Review of Lake Mungo (2009) by Mark D — 14 Jan 2011
Not as creepy as I expected, although the copy didn't show the girls face in the footage/photos too well. However, reckon the effect wouldn't really have made a difference. Although it was a clever choice to present the story as documentary, because it's spliced with moments that are typically cinematic (i.
E. some of the camera shots and cuts), it undermines it a little and makes it seem less freaky. However, good movie, great acting, and does make you feel a lil on the edge. It is a classic example where the telling of a story is freakier than presenting images like in a typical horror movie.
I didn't see Lake Mungo as a horror film at all, but nor as a documentary...there seemed to be a happy ending, which is a pretty foreign concept for both mediums.
