Review of Knuckle (2011) by Tom B — 01 Dec 2011
A raw, gritty, documentary about Irish traveller bare knuckle family boxing duels.
The film is taxing, being interestingly and grippingly real, raw and bizarre. It is harsh, capturing family hatred, but enjoyably macho and blackly amusing.
As you'd expect the traveller family followed captures the crazy madness, old fashioned fighting aggression, family feuding and touches of inbred oddities/travelling culture.
Interesting, committed journalistic documentary drama, but it left me feeling as if the film was as pointless as the subject matter (the fighting).
