Review of Knuckle (2011) by Steven N — 09 Jan 2012
Interesting doc about warring families in Ireland who send members of clans to fistfight each other, supposedly to settle things, but things never seem to get settled. It's a sad situation and a sad way of life as the people fighting each other are relatives and, at one time, friends. It's poor quality and Ian Palmer isn't a very exciting narrator, but it gets its point across and there's an allure to the gritty, brutal simplicity in the fighting and name calling. Would make a better movie adapted for Hollywood than a documentary probably but it's excellent stuff overall.
The best part comes as two old men are beating on each other and Palmer wonders what the hell he's doing there. You can sense his head shaking behind the camera.
