Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Austin M — 25 Jul 2007
By far the greatest single example of film making in the history of the species. A great many people will never see this black and white masterwork but the loss is not just theirs but society's in total.
If only all our violent criminals exhibited Dennis Price's level of sophistication and acerbic elan. Alec Guiness provides the first and last words in performing multiple roles in the same film - a true tour-de-force.
Richly, darkly comic and exquisitely written - a simple five star rating fails to do this work justice.
