Review of Johnny Guitar (1954) by Private U — 25 Jul 2008
A quite majestic western, which is the perfect metaphor for McCarthyism in cinema. Other themes such as feminism and Freudian shine through, but Rays direction reigns supreme here as Hayden and Crawford turn in career best performances.
Visually its glorious, the contrasting use of saturated colour has never been bettered. Scorsese the main man recommends it, thats a good enough reason to watch it.
