Review of Johnny Guitar (1954) by Guillaume H — 20 Jan 2013
Entertaining, if campy, western that could have been better written (it's beyond confusing what the actual motivations are until the robbery). Joan does her best, but ultimately her postbox-red lips are distracting.
The colouration may be to blame for that, but no doubt Miss Crawford was as well. Sterling Hayden does a bang up job as the mystery man who turns out not so mysterious, but like I said the plot is a bit shabby and Mercedes McCambridge draqs the thing down with her hammy performance.
And as "Bad Movies We Love" pointed out, there's a lot of bizarre homosexual subtext in between the lines.
