Review of Jenny's Wedding (2015) by Sparky M — 26 Apr 2018

Funny timing to finally watch this. I had thought it was another of the 2000's chick flicks, and it's been on my Netflix list for forever, I kept putting off watching it though I don't know why.

This is a topic that has been coming up between several friends, so I can relate to many things in the film, between how Jenny's family feels and reacts, to how Jenny does. Exciting to see Rory Gilmore lol, I'll never see Alexis Bledel as any other character really.

Homosexuality is such a difficult and taboo topic no matter where you stand. I've had family come out of the closet and it didn't go well. It still leaves me wondering what to do with situations such as Wedding/s.

Wondering how I should be applying what I believe to present circumstances. I can relate to family dynamics in Jenny's family and how her little sister feels left out no matter what happens. I can understand why but still hurt with how Jenny lashed out at her parents at the neighbor's funeral when she's decided she's no longer living her life pretending, just to appease family who are only lashing out at you when you've already given up so much for years just for them and they don't get it.

I love the dead grass motif with Anne. She's completely right in saying that "happy people don't have dead grass." And it was good comic relief as well. Makes me want to dig into psychology all the more.

I struggle like Jenny's father does after she comes out to him. He still thinks how he always did, but suddenly the way his coworkers refer to the people in their recent apartment on fire as bull dykes, bothered him.

I don't think I've really changed my opinion, but I can see how labels and reactions would hurt the other side of the coin, and it changes things when you realize just how close it is.
