Review of Jenny's Wedding (2015) by Liv K — 20 Nov 2017
Not terrible. I first watched this film when I was very much so in the closet and enjoyed it immensely because it was the only queer film I had access to, but now having much more exposure to gay films I see it's not very good.
It was very obviously made my straight people and despite being engaged to one another, the girls had no chemistry. There was very little physical contact between the woman and if there was it was very awkward, they acted like they were strangers.
Even though this is a movie about lesbians, the straight people have more interesting and better developed storylines than Kitty does even though she is the fiancé. I feel like the story focuses more on the straight people's 'triumphs' of growing to accept their daughter rather than the main character.
The music was also very cliche (literally just lick any other song god) which was just annoying. This film had some bits which were charming but overall it was the straightest queer film I've ever seen.
