Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Shannon L — 31 May 2007
This, in conjuction with it's sequel, are indeed to most moving film(s) I've ever seen. No, there are no wild special effects (it is French, so don't expect too much of that sort of thing), but it is well filmed, well acted, and most of all, incredibly well written.
The story is basically an incredible morality play - nothing is quite what it seems, and God's judgement, or Karma - whatever the director intended - has his/it's way with the main characters in a bad way.
Some people get what they deserve, others do to themselves what they deserve, and don't even realize what they're doing until it's too late. Anyway - this is absolutely amazing. Highly suggested, with it's sequel (otherwise you'll honestly have no clue as to what is REALLY happening).
