Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Steve W — 12 Mar 2011
The ultimate tragedy. Young hunchbacked Jean Cadoret inherits a farm and plans to build a farm, while his neighbours torment and plan to destroy him in order to buy the farm for cheap.
The acting and story is good, but the pacing is the biggest problem. It often feels like its being stretched out, as if it was doing it on purpose.
There is a moral and emotional dilemna with the villains, as we see the story from their perspective.
It is a very interesting little drama that has some amazing photography. very lush and colourful landscapes litter the film.
