Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut isn't exactly an easy sell. The story and production alike are decidedly lo-fi and in truth this is a sometimes arduous journey. It just about comes good overall but I would imagine Hoffman will only improve if he pursues a career behind the camera.
