Review of Invaders from Mars (1953) by Robben M — 06 Jan 2009
Oddly progressive for 1950's America in some parts. I mean, what with the anti-child abuse message, the female doctor, and the implication that Earth (played in this film by America) might be getting attacked because it's a threat.
But, then there's the McCarthy era paranoia (omfg teh bad guise l00k liek americans!), and at least one scene with double beds. You take what you can get I guess, right?
Plotwise, it was actually a decent story. 'Cept the ending. Seriously, what the fuck was up with ending? Is the kid psychic? Was he dreaming? Can the aliens fuck with time? Were the writers just lazy? Am I watching Signs?
But yeah, overall... I found it entertaining.
