Review of Inherit the Wind (1960) by Dan D — 05 Jul 2008
I expected this movie to be a dry courtroom drama with stiff 50s-era actors reciting their lines with ramrod straight backs and not an iota of emotion. I don't know why...I just did. It defintely wasn't that. The acting was great, March plays the part of a blustering old politican whose glory days have long since sailed and doesn't know it yet, but you can see his confidence erode and his hubris fail as the movie goes on. It's just brilliant. Tracy and Kelly bring it to life with some great interplay with the local hicks and each other. The oratory is stirring and strong, you can feel the passion both Darrow and Bryan feel for their beliefs throughout.
This is a movie they should show in school classrooms. It's shocking how many people don't even know about Scopes Monkey Trial, especially with all this "intelligent design" crap being thrown around today.
