Review of Inherit the Wind (1960) by Johnnylee T — 24 Sep 2016
Film loses impact because it doesn't spell out till an hour in that Cates is liable to imprisonment if he loses the case. Also, the judge is very passive and plays a minor role. Extraordinary of course that Darwin's Theory is on trial before a jury!
Beautifully acted by both leads. Claude Akins though miscast as minister Brown. But shows how religion can be used by fundamentalist zealots to manipulate people to the point of cruelty.
Great re-creation of courtroom. I could feel every degree of the 97 degree heat. Those fans never stopped waving.
