Review of Inherit the Wind (1960) by Neil G — 22 Nov 2009
Right-wing fundamentalist crazies besotted with their own righteousness trying to destroy our right to question? No it's not a Town Hall meeting on Health Care; it's the stuff we supposedly settled back in the Twenties.
I can't a imagine a more topical movie classic. Spencer Tracy proves he's a great actor yet again showing how reason and rationality are the true cornerstones of the American Experiment. Fredric March as William Jennings Bryan--the names are changed for the movie--shows the smug self-righteousness of some fundamentalist Christians who believe that worship of a biblical God makes them invulnerable to error.
Tracy as Clarence Darrow shows us that God loves truth more than dogma and it is Darrow finally who comes across as the most Christ-like.
