Review of Infernal Affairs II (2003) by Michelle K — 26 Feb 2008
If you haven't already, go read my review for Infernal Affairs (the first one). Most of what I have to say on the topic is there, although I will expound upon it a little bit more here. Infernal Affairs II is the second movie in the trilogy, but is a prequel to the first.
Rather than focus solely on the undercover moles, though, the film delves more into the characters of Inspector Wong and Sam (especially Sam). A few questions from the first movie are answered, which makes both movies that much better.
While the first movie was more of a cat-and-mouse headgame flick, this is more of a movie about internal turmoil and character development. But don't worry, there is still plenty of that IA element that made the original so appealing.
While this is technically a prequel, I would still say to watch the original first. If you liked the original (or The Departed, which was a remake of the original), you'll like this.
