Review of Infernal Affairs II (2003) by Joel S — 08 Dec 2010
I can't lie about my affection for Scorsese, nor can I fairly assess this trilogy of films without having "The Departed" in the back of my mind. Having seen how effectively Scorsese and company mashed together the content of these three films, this sequel seems so superfluous to begin with.
Like the first, it's well-acted, well-paced, well-shot, and all together well-delivered, but there is nothing to push it over the top, and the story leaves some things to be desired. There's also that nagging desire on the part of the filmmakers to embellish the drama to a detrimental extent.
Overall, a well executed film that lacks personality.
