Set in Hong Kong in the early 60's in a crowded apartment, a man and a woman married to people who are always away or spend many nights at home get acquainted with each other and begin to feel an attraction as they discover that they have many things in common.

Wong's film is perhaps also his greatest masterpiece. The hyperkinetic camera movements, particular editing and vivid colours make this a meditative, poetic, thoughtful and provocative study on many themes, like history, memory, humanity and most importantly love.

Although it deals with an adult storyline, the film always remains lustfully tasteful and instantly gives Kar Wai Wong a reputation as one of the most romantic and passionate filmmakers ever.
