Review of In the Mood for Love (2000) by Keenan S — 29 Mar 2018
In the Mood for Love is a steamy romance about lust that manages to keep the viewers at bay purely through chemistry rather than sex. It's a story of lust as two married people develop strong attractions to one another through their interactions, though they know that they can never be together.
It's an interesting story about lust (Perhaps even true love, but also a commentary about societal expectations of marriage and love) as the two fall for one another even though they can never be together.
Though sex never occurs, it proves to be a surprisingly intense romantic drama as you can feel every moment from their attraction to their genuine affection for one another. Because of this chemistry and the outstanding direction from Wong Kar-Wai (2046, Fallen Angels, Chungking Express), this film is more erotic and intense than most other erotic dramas.
It's a film that will have you riveted and turned on from beginning to end. It's truly one of the great films of the 21st century.
