Review of In Dreams (2013) by Kristen S — 05 Apr 2010
First, the good: the cinematography is fantastic. a beautiful rich, saturated color palette--the film is consistently pleasurable to look at. also, if premise is intriguing. the bad--oh, the melodrama! the plot is entirely impossible to believe.
suspend your disbelief and focus on the performances (especially bening, who's brilliant as a woman who recognizes her own madness and attempts to stop it--a very complex and satisfying performance) and the cinematography.
robert downey jr is terrifying in green contact lenses as a serial killer with a dark and tragic past. I would say, this film gets a bad rap and it's better than its reputation might have you believe.
it's not perfect but there are many redeeming features.
