Review of In a Bedroom (2012) by Bob S — 26 Oct 2011
The strength of this film is to place everyday characters, caught up in lifeâ(TM)s routine, into extraordinary situations and still make the story believable. At first, the story centers on a young man caught up, and over his head, in a relationship with a single mother fresh off a turbulent marriage.
While this affair is essential to the story, the principal characters are the young man's parents played to perfection by Wilkinson and Spacek. Their portrayal of parents raising a young man, facing an empty nest and keeping things to themselves for years felt so authentic.
Field should be given enormous credit for his direction (in his first full-length feature) and his adaptation. Field seems to have a great eye for taking on projects based on strong, multidimensional stories and characters.
