Review of Impulse (1974) by Matthew C — 20 Mar 2010
If you're willing and excited to embrace all that is Shatner, Impulse is a gem. This is not a movie to watch by yourself. Not because it's scary, but because it must be enjoyed with friends. Shatner acts the heck out of every scene, even the ones that don't need it.
And director, William Grefe, must have thought he was doing a serious film, because he directs the heck out of the movie, in spite of its obvious budgetary limitations. There are several very cool and very creative shots throughout.
And the 70s fashion is fantastic. Shatner in a striped wife-beater with red pants is worth the price of admission. In all honestly, this is probably a two star film, but I got four stars of enjoyment out of it.
Again, watch it with friends. Like Godzilla films and Italian zombie pictures, it's best enjoyed with others.
