Review of Ikiru (1952) by Philip E — 22 Aug 2009
Many people one day realize that they've wasted their lives chasing profit, or stability, or frivolous enjoyments, or whatever other marginal thing. If they're fortunate, they can spend the rest of their life trying to figure out what it means to really live, to enjoy life.
"Ikiru" tells the story of a man who's brought to such a realization by the reality of imminent death. His remaining months alive aren't necessarily spent "catching up", rather discovering the true definition of meaning in his life, and in the lives of others.
