Review of I Walked with a Zombie (1943) by Manny C — 16 Jul 2008
One of the few horror films released in the 1940s that it actually scary. Under Val Lewton's care, director Jacques Tourneur has created a haunting, eerily beautiful film that is tied with WHITE ZOMBIE and THE PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES as the best pre-NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD zombie film.
Tourneur, who directed the equally mesmerizing CAT PEOPLE and the equally nightmarish CURSE OF THE DEMON, ranks with Terrence Fisher as one of the most underrated horror film directors of all time.
