There's no way this movie can possibly earn more than two stars. First, the cinematography was lazy, unfocused and without direction. There were so many shots that served absolutely no purpose whatsoever and contributed nothing to character development, plot development, or even something as shallow as aesthetic feel. Which of course means that the editing was virtually nonexistent. Not to say those shots weren't beautiful, but a great timeless work of art is not a collection of unorganized moments. It grows, develops and is made strong by craftsmanship in script-writing (see third paragraph) and production.

Second, the score itself was charming, but I felt it was a piece separate from the film. In that, I mean that the music did not translate any of the possible themes, both personal and objective, to the audience. The only moment where film and score seemed to hold hands running through the field was the final scene where she runs. And even then, it didn't work as well as I imagine Adams would have hoped.

The script, I believe, is the heart and soul of a good film. If you don't have a good idea for the film, it becomes virtually nonsalvageable. I will grant that the writing was successful in providing a feel of realism in the interaction between the characters. But it would seem that probably was the result of a virtually dialog free script that allowed the actors to improvise.

Which leads me to Tilda. She's a great actress. What else is there to say about her? And for her performance, I'll give this film two stars.
