Review of I Am Love (2010) by Dominic S — 26 Jul 2013
Tilda Swinton offers a perfectly nuanced performance in a slow but ultimately dramatic story of an affluent Italian family. Swinton plays Emma, a Russian woman who's been contentedly married to a Milanese businessman for more than 20 years. The couple has three children. This stable status quo shifts when Emma surprises herself by getting involved with a friend of her oldest son, an affair that will lead to new personal discoveries.
The plot of "Io sono l'amore" is as old as it can get, and director Luca Guadangino keeps his storytelling extremely slow. He does show an uncanny ability of ending a movie though; this flick sold itself to me during its very last minutes.
