Review of I Am Love (2010) by Reece L — 05 Dec 2014
We're introduced to the domineering nature of this affluent Italian family in the grey-black pallet of a harsh winter set against a castle-like mansion, with the subtle ploys for power and passive-aggressive put-downs framing Swinton's Emma as a kind soul trapped in a crushingly wealthy milieu.
This is a well-formed space, fertile ground for entertaining melodrama, and although Emma's journey to freedom goes beyond the bounds of reason, the style and performances are so excellent that the experience is still ridiculously fun, even if we're just watching beautiful people being sneaky for two hours.
