Review of I Am Love (2010) by Stan S — 09 Aug 2010
"I Am Love" is the Italian equivalent to a film like Zach Braff's "Garden State": it's art house for the sake of art house. It's only appeal is to make its audience feel as if they have watched something artistic, something "significant", something that's just beyond the mainstream's grasp.
"I Am Love" (what the hell does that even mean?) collapses under its own pretension from the first scene, and the rest of its two-hour bulk is terribly edited, cliched, and redundantly suspenseful.
Swinton is a brilliant actress. But if this were your first encounter with her work, you'd think she could only convey three emotions: mild shock, slight hunger, and muted lust.
