Review of House on Haunted Hill (1959) by Brandon V — 07 Feb 2009
Best measured by how well it holds up, which is pretty well. Some timeless shock moments that the uninformed viewer will still jump out of their skin at. Biggest problems are storytelling and script defects which are, sadly, also timeless, as the ending tries way too hard to twist and surprise.
Twist it does, but rather than surprise, it still feels cheap, fifty years later. Not quite one of the all-time horror classics, but it's relatively notable and a lot of fun.
