Review of Hour of the Wolf (1968) by Kate P — 19 Jun 2008
I honestly wouldn;t have ad a clue what was happening if I hadn;t read the review first. von sydow is a self-absorbed artis holidaying with his pregnant doormat wife on an island infested with vampires.
i'm told bergman uses the vampires as a metaphore for the relationship between artist and audience; this film film suggests he has an incredibly bleak view of his critics as narcisitic, carnivourous monsters trying to humiliate him at every turn.
the family uses him purely for their own entertainment, in particular the scene where the baon covers borg in makeup then sends him to his mistress. it;s completey mad and fairly unsettling.
