Review of Horsemen (2009) by Emma D — 25 Mar 2011
The film is an utterly ridiculous attempt at the apocalyptic horror/thriller genre. With a forced storyline merely written to fit into the Four Horsemen biblical context, out-of-place characters (especially Zhang Ziyi's character), and a ridiculous ending that lacks substance, this is certainly not a film I would recommend to any one.
Zhang Zi Yi's character is supposed to be the adopted daughter of one of the victims. Considering that the character's been living with American parents since 8 years of age, it is particularly strange that Zhang Zi Yi, a chinese actress with a thick Chinese accent (who did not speak any English only a few years ago), was chosen for the role.
Seems to me that the character was merely written into the script (A chinese girl adopted by American parents, who spoke English with a thick Chinese accent) for the sake of Zhang Zi Yi. The only positive note I can give to the film was Dennis Quaid's performance as a miserable and committed cop.
I rate this film as a huge flop and a big thumb down.
