Review of Hobson's Choice (1954) by Ed Q — 17 Aug 2009
I wouldn't call this movie really funny, or hilarious. I would call it amusing and entertaining all the way through though. It's got a great, simple story that's beautifully shot and a fantastic lead performance from film legend Charles Laughton, who reminded me a lot of W.C. Fields in this picture.
It's a real testament to David Lean's abilities that he's able to make not only huge epic movie spectacles like Bridge on the River Kwai, Doctor Zhivago and of course, Lawrence of Arabia, but also a small, simple, entertaining little family dramady like this and succeed at it.
