Review of High Plains Drifter (1973) by Hereward P — 23 May 2009
Bleak, moody and dark. About as dark as it gets. Probably the darkest western ever made. Apparently it upset John Wayne so much he wrote a letter of complaint to Clint. Pale Rider was basically a remake but Clint took out some of the brutality and strangeness that makes this one stand out.
Be warned, the DVD version I got has a terrible sound mix - 1.0? What is this, the stone age?
