Review of Hesher (2010) by Chris H — 03 Dec 2011
This is definitely an off-the-wall type of movie. I didn't know what to expect out of it, but gave it a whirl anyways. I love the look of the movie and the way it was shot. The picture looked grainy and lower-budget, which I felt fit the mood of the characters and the setting perfectly. There is a melancholy that hangs over all the characters, and the performances are portrayed with subtlety and tenderness, except for Hesher, of course.
I can't say I liked Hesher (the character) all that much. I couldn't decipher when he was trying to help people, when he was trying to get them into trouble, or if he wasn't thinking about them at all and was just trying to have fun. I liked the relationship he developed with the kid TJ's grandma. I thought this showed that Hesher wasn't just another meathead/pothead out of the gutter. Definitely a mixed bag.
