Review of Hesher (2010) by Blæke W — 01 Jul 2013
Mrs. Rosowski (Helen Slayton-Hughes): Life is like walking in the rain... you can hide and take cover or you can just get wet.
This was a little interesting and a whole lot strange but I enjoyed it because no matter how seemingly pointless the events were, there were kernels of truths that were enlightening and the film had a unique honesty the way it told the story, the way it portrayed people and about human nature. Hesher is definitely not a hero in the traditional sense, or not even a hero at all but his unique perspective on life makes him a definite tour de force. I love JGL as an actor and it's cool seeing him in non-traditional, stereotypical, idol roles. Natalie Portaman is such an unassuming actor but she is very likeable in pretty much every role she does. Rainn Wilson was cool but props goes to Devin Brochu (TJ) because he did an awesome job of being the central character and also to Piper Laurie, who plays kooky but lovable Grandma Madeleine Forney; she was totally the heart of the story. Overall, the film although different was actually good.
