Review of Hereafter (2010) by Francisco R — 18 Jan 2013
I am so shocked by all the positive reviews I read about this movie, including Roger Ebert's 4 stars! I thought it was dreadful, almost unwatchable. The early tsunami scenes were terrifying and riveting, but afterward the momentum just stalled with disconnected stories of the journalist and the psychic.
The journalist's post-tsunami experiences were full of hints and mysteries that never seemed to amount to anything. The child who plays the bereaved twin was not very believable to me. I wish I had been charmed by this movie as everyone else seems to have been, but where some were moved by a "sensitive exploration," I was bored and irritated.
