Review of Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996) by Andy N — 05 Jan 2015
What starts out as ridiculous sounding ends up being pretty damn good. A lot of horror franchises go into space--so while I didn't know that this was the sequel that took Pinhead into space, it not only took Pinhead into space but actually did what other franchises couldn't do and made the film interesting.
You get the entire back story of the puzzle box and for what it's worth you get some decent acting and a metric fuck ton of gore. I had very low expectations going into this film due to several people telling me that after 3 the series stalled out and just got terrible, and when I heard the film's score changed to something.
..cheaper sounding...I had very low hopes as the film started. The robot CGI didn't help my feelings, but then the film began to tell its story proper spanning 3 generations of the same man's bloodline.
The idea that a random toy maker was tasked with creating this hellish box without any knowledge of the horrors it would take on was actually a pretty good story and it was hilarious seeing Adam Scott playing a summoner of demons before he got somewhat popular and became a comedian.
Angelique was a pretty awesome demon and for most of the film provides the viewer with the gore they came to see until Pinhead finally arrives on the scene, and when he does, he does not dissapoint. I'll never look at conjoined twins the same again.
So in the end Hellraiser 4: Bloodline went into space and succeeded...even though the ending is a bit rushed compared to the rest of the film.
